Ladder Fall Protection & Arrest Systems

Fall arrest ladders provide a safe and controlled environment while ascending and descending an access ladder. This fall protection system produces an innovative solution for vertical climbing that provides superior safety.

How A Fall Arrest Ladder Works

A fall arrest ladder safety device has an innovative system design and can be clamped or mechanically fixed to most structures, including brickwork, concrete and steel structures. Fall arrest ladders are easy to use and are commonly installed on a range of different sectors such as hotels, education and offices.

Users wear a body harness that connects them to a shock-absorbing travelling device that runs along the track. The shock-absorbing mechanism reduces the force on the worker and the system. Users can glide easily along the fall arrest ladder and a smooth journey is guaranteed. Ladder fall arrest systems allow workers to move up and down hands-free without any manual adjustment. Therefore, giving workers the freedom to perform their jobs efficiently and safely.

Fall arrest ladders, as well as any fall arrest system used for Work at Height must be inspected and compliance tested once every 12 months.

The Key Benefits of Fall Arrest Ladder Systems

Guide to Height Safety

16 Questions when choosing a Fall Protection Company

  • Ladder fall protection systems comprise either a track or a wire-based system that can be broadly split into vertical safety lines and vertical track systems.

  • Ladder fall arrest systems allow for multiple users per track at one time and they require basic training on working height and PPE. Height safety is important and fall protection is required when the ladder is 24 feet or greater in length.

A fall arrest ladder or ladder fall arrest system must be inspected annually.

  • Fall protection systems are available in a range of materials and finishes, including the below:

    Materials:

    Aluminium
    GRP
    Galvanised steel
    Stainless steel

    Finishes:

Powder coated to any RAL colour

  • Fall Protection Equipment is required to be tested every 12 months.

Altus Safety provide a full inspection, testing, certification and maintenance service for existing working at height equipment.

  • In the event of a fall, a worker using a ladder fall arrest system is far less likely to be injured during the fall arrest process compared to a fall from a traditional hoop system.

These systems provide complete fall arrest protection in the event of accidental falls whilst ascending or descending fixed ladders.

The traveller moves easily along the fall arrest rail holding the user close to the ladder, giving the user total confidence while climbing.

  • This ladder fall arrest system complies with the following standards:

    BS EN353‐1

    BS EN 795 – Class D

    Testing/Inspection standards and frequency:

Class D Fall Protection systems under BS EN 795- minimum of every 12 months and/or after every fall by a working at height specialist company. Ladder fall arrest systems and any associated PPE equipment must be inspected before and after every use by a trained user.

Users are required to wear an EN361 compliant body harness in order to connect to the shock absorbing fall arrest device. Only attach to the system by means of the front D‐ring on a compliant full body harness. Always check pre‐tension before use.

Fall arrest ladder systems are a safe, aesthetically pleasing and cost effective alternative to traditional hooped ladders.
