Abseil equipment needs testing regularly. Failure to do so can lead to accidents at your workplace. In order to keep your abseil equipment compliant, you’ll need to ensure the equipment is inspected and tested by a professional. Our experienced engineers put site compliance first, protecting worker safety and keeping your systems in safe working condition. Contact us for a competitive quote today.
Our engineers have the knowledge and experience to be able to fully compliant test a range of abseil safety equipment, including rope access tracks and rails, abseil posts and eyebolts, and more. With years of experience in the industry, our team have seen all manner of abseil equipment, and with their in depth knowledge of the regulations for each, are able to ensure your systems meet the highest of standards.
Abseil rails and rope access tracks enable quick and safe access for operatives in a way that can be fully customised to suit your needs. Better yet, they’re available for external and internal use, making them appropriate for a variety of tasks. They can be operated manually or motorised, but either way, they must be compliance tested a minimum of every 6 months and/or after every fall.
We can also compliance test abseil anchor points, posts, or eyebolts. These provide vertical access, typically to the facade or side of the building but could also be installed for other reasons. Operatives must be IRATA trained, and the system can be installed on a variety of materials and roof types for safe rope access. They must be compliance tested every 6 months by a competent person and you should inspect the system yourself for any obvious issues before and after every use in between.
When it comes to abseil anchor points, posts, or eyebolts, these systems must be inspected a minimum of every 6 months. Abseil posts are the most important part of a safe access abseil system because they support the suspended worker. It’s this post that prevents a fall, so if there are any issues then the consequences can be serious.
According to BS 8610, BS 7883, and EN 795, system testing must be carried out by a competent person. In line with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and best practice for equipment used to lift people, all abseil equipment requires a thorough examination, including a load test where deemed necessary by the competent person, every 6 months. This ensures the integrity of the system due to the significant load requirements.
In addition to the compliance tests our engineers can carry out, it’s imperative that all operatives get used to carrying out pre-use and post-use checks. This ensures the system’s safe use between tests. Our team at Altus Safety can provide additional training to support your workers in understanding what these checks should look like to protect themselves.
Abseil rails and rope access rails need to satisfy similar regulations:
As a result, compliance tests are required every 6 months in order to ensure the system is fit for purpose and can safely support the load of a worker plus any equipment they take to complete the task at hand.
With nationwide engineers, we’re able to support you ASAP with these compliance tests, no matter where you are in the country. We also provide all our clients with a dedicated account manager to ensure your full compliance. It’s easy to forget about an upcoming compliance test, but with our team, you don’t need to worry. We’ll send reminders well in advance to keep your abseil rail systems fully compliant and safe at all times.
Abseil systems are typically used for facade access. They support the load of an individual providing protection from falls as they complete tasks whilst suspended at height. This obviously carries significant risks, so it’s vital that you keep up with your compliance tests and regular pre and post use tests to ensure the system is safe to use.
Missing a compliance test isn’t good, of course, but if you realise you’ve missed a compliance test for any aspect of your abseil equipment, then you must take the system out of action immediately, using an obvious sticker or barrier to mark the system as being out of use.
After that, you should contact our team at Altus Safety immediately. We’ll arrange for one of our engineers to come out to you as quickly as we can to carry out the compliance test in line with all relevant regulations. As soon as the system has passed inspection, you can put the system back in use again and if you decide to continue to use our services, your dedicated account manager will remind you of the next test and get a date booked well in advance to prevent the same situation from happening again in the future.
